I would sell it to them for full price with a promise to buy it back at a
lower price as long as it's returned in the same condition.

Movie productions have a long history of destroying things rented to them
as props. Unless it's some student film they will have insurance but, it
will be a hassle getting paid and it won't make the item any less destroyed
or lost.
