Good for you. Have I mentioned recently the roughly *3,000 job applications* I've made around the world since the end of my last F/T role in 2008? Those are all for positions I'm well-qualified for with abundant experience, natch. 25Y in IT, I've supported more than a dozen OSes professionally; I know every OS, server and desktop, in current business use, and most of the big apps. I average 2-3 interviews a year, if that. It may be only moderately bad in the USA. Elsewhere in the world, it's /terrible./ I believe there are roughly 20-25? more people looking for work than jobs in the UK currently; the /average/ number of applicants is around 18-23 per job, depending who you ask, and that includes the really crappy ones. In professional roles, it ranges from around 65-70 applicants per job to over 900 per job for desirable positions; I have head of jobs getting several thousand applicants as a matter of routine. The last 2 positions I landed lasted 8 days and 6 weeks, respectively. I am still on 2 months' unpaid leave from the last one (end 2012) - I've been on those 2 months leave since the 2nd week of December. And that was switching to a whole new industry for me.
