"PC standards" is one of my favorite oxymorons!
The first time that I encountered 720K floppies formatted 1.4M was a guy
with a PS/2 model 50, who had absolutely no idea that there were any
difference between drives other than size. He had contacted me to ask my
to "fix" a computer that couldn't read disks from his 50.
