At some point around 5.2 I think Sun fancied keeping the last digit in
line with the date,
with a major turn per year. Then that fell out of vogue as the selling
point they had to
grasp on to was that they were more "sable" and easier to support than
turning the
product with new "features" as all were doing.
They pretty much threw in the towel with 2.6 with the "compile once, run
forever"
pledge on the binaries, so you didn't have to recompile the planet each
time they
turned Solaris.
