Eek! You're right. I was in too big a hurry when I read the message. The
GPIO is a 16 bit parallel interface.

Is it? The HP-IB interface is the instrument/disk drive/etc one. I
thought that the GPIO interface was 'General Purpose Input/Output' and
was essentially a 16 bit parallel port with handshake lines (like what
you find on the end of a 82165).
