Just because the cartridge fits into a QIC drive doesn't mean that
what was written on it is in the same GCR encoding format used by
them.
3M cartridges and drives existed before the QIC standards, and there
are many incompatible formats that were written on them. If you look
in DEI or 3M documenatation, the on-tape format is not the same as
used on QIC drives.
