than an Acrobat document, both for archival purposes and for further work.
I disagree. It's not particularly difficult to pull the bitmaps back
out of a PDF document and convert them into whatever fromat you like.
For instance, the pdfimages program that is part of the free xpdf
software can do it, and there are many Windows utilities as well.
