Turbochannel is the bus I've seen most often with
DEC RISC workstations,
although I think they were not the only vendor to use it. The MIPS boxes
and the early Alpha boxes were Turbochannel. Mostly, it was used for
frame buffers, but I think there were one or two non-graphic Turbochannel
cards.
There were a ton of non-graphic turbochannel cards, like ethernet, scsi,
fddi, serial controllers, etc. Turbochannel was with EISA supposed to be
one of the standard busses for the ARC consortium in the early nineties
(whatever happened to that?). I has almost the same form factor as sbus,
and it has a pretty good B/W for its age!!! Did any vendor besides DEC
ever use the turbochannel?
