I doubt it, but was PL/M the only compiler available for the 80C196? I
don't know the rationale for using it.

We had an Intel C compiler for the 80C196 hosted on a VAX. I think that
BSO created the compiler for Intel - but that was a long time ago. I
know that that product is still shipping.
Most of our code was assembly language.
