x86??? That would make a REALLY COOL sub-$500 PC. PPC??? So MS didn't
COMPLETELY cut it off.... I guess that if Intel (or anyone else) wanted,
they could make a 386/486 (AMD's ElanSC400 comes to mind) processor
based-WindowsCE system, requireing less effort to port to CE.
Shh! I let you in on a little secret. Microsoft produced a free beta of
their ETK (embedded toolkit) for CE which includes kernel configurations
for the CEPC platform (a 486+ with certain video card requirements).
Sorry, I don't know where you can still find a copy, and the evil
Microsofties require that the PC has a proprietary dongle-like cable
attached, but a little hacking could probably fix that.
BTW, am I the only one with a Modular Windows device and SDK around here?
This was Microsoft's first failed attempt at going after the embedded
market. I'm thinking of starting a Microsoft Failures collection.
Anybody know where I can find an SDK for their other failed embedded
attempt. What was it called? WindowsAtWork or something like that.
