Perhaps it is the success of the Apple II that causes the effect? This might
generate a comparatively large amount of interest in the machine that came
before it and just happens to be much rarer. Apple (from the Mac generation on
at least) also seems to generate a lot of passionate interest among its
followers as well as a fair proportion of people with more money than sense.
