I have had mixed results with UBCD. It often seems that I'm reduced to
booting MS-DOS to figure out the problem.
You could boot DOS from a USB stick and perhaps run one of the old
Supersoft/Landmark tools to gather basic data.
Either way, it's going to require a little bit of work.
