Hi,
Yeah, I can't ever remember seeing 4mm audio DAT
tapes
used for data either....
OK, some years ago I used to routinely use DAT cassettes in my DDS1 & DDS2
drives without any issues whatsoever when I ran short of DDS tapes. So I can
say that it *DOES* work!
However, I've only ever tried this with HP DDS1 & 2 drives (which ISTR were
manufactured for them by Mitsumi) so I can't speak for other makes. YMMV.
OTOH These days I tend to use DDS tapes in my DAT recorder, as I don't use
the DDS drives anymore and DAT tapes are as rare as hen's teeth. They're
better than nothing, but produce SIGNIFICANTLY more audio dropouts than
"real" DAT tapes though....maybe it's an Aiwa thing...?
TTFN - Pete.
