I prefer to modify my classic computers using
devices/technology that is
similar ot the rest of the machine, or that in the very least would have
been aroudn when the machien was in active use. In this case, I guess
using an early 8 bit microprocessor is contemporary with the machine
(there were plenty of RK05s in use in 1975), but I would prefer to do it
with TTL devices only. I shouldn't be too hard, given the quite good
stability of the RK05 spindle speed.
Doing it in TTL only would take LOTS of logic to do it the way I think I want to
do it. And it would take LOTS of work. And in the end you have a big and huge
and complicated board that costs money and space inside the drive - both quite
rare resources. And it has fixed functionality.
And using any old 8 bit thing is probably too slow.
Currently it looks as if my modification board will be directly patched onto an
RK05Js M7700 index and sector board.
For the other board set I did not yet look at the schematics. But it will work
in an analogue way.
Kind regards
