Why to people sell them on ebay? instead of taking
them directly to the
refineries.
I sell my chips on eBay as I get more money than there is gold in
them. As long as there are people who want to refine them at home,
people will pay more than their value.
We sent tons of cards to the refinery in the 1990s.
It only makes sense in large quantities as the refiner charges a
refining fee, usually on the order of $1 or $2 per pound. When the
value of the cards is less than that $1 or $2 per pound you lose
money. We ended up salting the lower value gaylords with gold
connectors and chips to get the value up to make a profit.
Also finding a refiner you can trust is a big problem. We only found
one in the 1990s we felt we could trust. There are a lot of places for
Gold to disappear.
