Again, I;'ve never had any problems with PayPal.
I got screwed by them recently - and they were quite underhanded about it and
tried to claim it was my bank's fault. My bank were all very good about it
though and I get the impression they had quite a good scour of their records
to confirm that the fault was on the paypal side and not with their systems
(and sent me a nice letter explaining this, should I need it for any reason)
I just wish there were several different companies doing what paypal do, so
that I could pick one of the others who were hopefully a little better...
Re. EBay, I like to at least try to keep my stuff out of the hands of the gold
scrappers, parts resellers etc., which means I've always found it far
preferable to sell within interest areas rather than the EBay free-for-all.
I've got nothing against auctions as such though - although I do think EBay
distorts prices because it often gives a false impression of the rarity of an
item (ebay value != market value, in other words).
I've also
found most sellers have lousy communications. did you get the mon=
ey order? any problems?
did you ship it yet? whats the tracking #? most of these never get answered=
I'll agree with that!. I wish sellers would simply e-mail me when they've
posted the item. Some do, but alas they're in the minority.
I did sell a few things on ebay once, more for the experience than anything.
It was hell. I don't know how people can do it on a regular basis - the
cleaning, testing, photography, write-up, shipping calculations, packaging,
conversing with [prospective] buyers...
... although I suspect a lot of people don't really bother with numbers 1, 2,
6 and 7, and write-up is limited to foaming at the mouth about how ultra rare
the item is ;-)
cheers
