I don't know if the program, whatever it was had
control over the scan
or not, but it is possible that was firmware controlled. If the monitor
schematics exist, you might need to see if there is a control that
turned on the video, which may fire the high voltage on demand.
I don't have the monitor schematics to hand (they're on bitsavers), but
it's entirely possible that there will be no horizontal drive (and thus
no HV) if there's no horizontal sync pulses from the Alto. Amnd that
might well be software controlled.
to the OP : What test gear do you have/ Do you have an EHT voltmeter (up
to about 20kV)? A 'scope? A multimeter?
