A fully loaded 3500 has 3 power supplies, 8 UltraSPARC cpu, 64 custom
ram simm, and up to 8 FC hard drives. Lots of fans too of course. I
think the ram draws a lot. The power usages drops pretty fast the more
ram you take out. I had one of mine on a WattsUp and played around
trying to get it the power usage down to where I felt ok leaving it on
24/7. Never did.
They are really cool boxes. The Well used to be hosted on one. They
aren't very loud and I like the way they look. They make great surfaces
to put stuff on and they roll around. Probably the most useful feature
of them now.
