Trivial but meaningful distinction: the original Macintosh will have a
name plate on the back that merely says "Macintosh". No "Macintosh
128"
or "Macintosh 512K". Just "Macintosh". The "Macintosh 128"
variety came
out when the "Macintosh 512" was released. So the true "first" Macs
are
the ones that simply say "Macintosh".
Also, the first 100 Macintosh's off the assembly line had a special plaque
stuck to the back that was customized for each employee on the Mac team,
with their name engraved on it, thanking them for their effort in bringing
the Mac to fruition. Those are really the most valuable basic Macintosh's
(as far as Ebay goes).
