Do you recall who did the FORTRAN? Was it Ryan-McFarland? If so, I
can understand the speed.
Microsoft F80 for 8080 had pretty decent code generation. I think
the FORTRAN for ISIS-II (Intel MDS) came on something like 7 8"
floppies. It was BIG.
Was there a FORTRAN for the 360/20?
