(and stop top posting)
C: Kindly stop telling me how to post. Some replies
are sent from my
stupid/smart phone. It gives me the option of whether to include the
op or not. Not where to place the text...
You don't have to use it. I certainly wouldn't put up with a mail
client that badly broken.
?It's a free country after all
This is a mailing list, not a country. As such, it is basically a
dictatorship, with our listadmin(s) as dictator(s). (Benevolent
dictator(s), both in the case of this list and, in my experience, other
lists in general, but still. Substantially less evil than
physical-world dictatorships in that it is far easier for us, the
populace, to leave if we don't like it, which is one of the major
things that keeps the dictatorship benevolent.)
Subject to that, you may of course continue to top-post (and no-trim,
which seems to go with top-posting) if you like. But we (FWVO "we")
are equally free to ignore, either mechanically or manually, your mail
in response. I certainly know that when I see a top-posted (and,
usually, untrimmed) message, it has to be significantly more
interesting to get me to read it and/or respond to it, relative to one
that uses conventional quoting, trims quotes for relevance, etc.
The same is true of various other offenses against readbility -
paragraph-length lines, misspellings, grammatical errors,
unconventional quoting styles, etc: they raise the level of
interestingness, to coin a word, required to get me to read and/or
respond to a message.
