Well, I'll just replace the resistors, and if they blow, well, I bought
spares. I can gamble on $1.50, which is about what they cost me.

Perhaps--or not. That's the problem when things start going "poof" and
turning all brown and crunchy, particularly in HV or power circuitry.
Multiple failures are not uncommon. Just because you've replaced the
visibly bad components, it doesn't mean that there are still more problems
lurking that you can't see.
