Many computers built in 19" racks of Eurocards (e.g. Acorn Systems) have
the I/O connectors on the front edge of the boards.
The JC80/85 systems had tons of connections in the front of their chassis.
The remote loop racks are full of boards that have screw terminals along
their front edge. Those racks of boards handle nearly all the I/O for
these building automation system computers. I guess those could be
considered "ports" ;)
