ever make it to the 'practical' stage, if we are talking heavy
lift here.
AFAIK the only flying hardware of Project Orion was the dynamite powered
demonstrator (as in: show that fundamental idea works). And that only
achieved a few meters of flight (as planned).
Nerva got several test engine working (on the ground), but where problems
with long time operations.
Both projects got killed long before anything flyable was on the test
stands.
