The Sun cables don't work, they are 8 pin.

Yes, you could -- but don't use ordinary PS/2 ready-made cables as they
only have 4 or 5 pins connected, and the SGI systems use all six.
from pccables.com, they have a cable that works and its
less than
$3 if I remember correctly.
