OK, I have seen my own reply ... top-posting is no different.
The text at the bottom is also stripped of all control characters it seems.
I am running Windows XP SP2 and use "Windows Live Hotmail".

Look right below the subject line on the from:to:subject:
There is a select "Show plain text".
Select this and you won't have to fiddle with the quoted
text.
