Actually it can go higher. That limitation is based
on a single step, from 0 to step to 0 movement.
the steppers can go much faster if ramped up and down
rather than just the single step.

I was looking up drive step rates earlier this week.
It seems that 1> mS is the top end for steppers.
That would limit the frequency to 1 KHz. maybe interleave the steps, additive synth?
A pile of old HD and you could get into the 1-50 KHz range?
