Isopropyl alcohol and propan-2-ol are just two different names for the
same compound. (Isopropanol is a third.)
1-methyl-2-ethanol is another. Quite uncommon though. As is
2-hydroxypropane.
Peace... Sridhar
I work at a lab and have used some of them before, but I am not a chemist nor have I
really had any chemistry training (other than from secondary school).
When chemicals have 2 or more names, I often get confused. The only one I know by 2 names
is Caustic (soda?), aka Sodium Hydroxide, which is used alot in the lab for various
reagents.
Why have 2 or more names for the same thing (excluding American English/UK English
spelling differences)?
