For a few years, having a calculator would not have helped in my maths exams.
I now have a HP49G (9 years old, so nearly on topic) that can do the
algebra for me. The only down side - the work I have been doing for
the last 7 years has not required any real maths and I am forgetting
it. :( I keep on thinking that I should know the maths on how to set
up and undertake certain basic (complex) engineering calculations, and
just not being able to - and getting rather frustrated!
Hitting my text books again is on my todo list! :)
