The IIgs used DD superdrives.
The IIgs used 800K drives ("Apple 3.5 Drive"), but they weren't
"superdrives". You could plug the Apple 1440K "superdrive" (AKA FDHD)
into the IIgs, but then it only acted as a 800K drive. You could plug
them into the Apple Superdrive controller card to actually use them as
1440K.
There were some aftermarket HD drives for the IIgs but
you needed a
special controller
and those drives are more expensive then a HD
superdrive would be for
a mac.
I'm not surprised that there were some third-party drives, but I can't
imagine why anyone would have paid more for a third-party drive than for
the actual Apple drive.

Great! So I could possibly find some ratty 3.5"
external 2gs drives,
disassemble them, and drop them into, say, a IIfx or IIci?
Sure, but they would only be 800K.
