Normal for Gmail.
By the way, chaps, as you can see I'm on Gmail too, and it does
bottom-quote perfectly fine.
Either press Ctrl-A to Select All, so the collapsed text of the quoted
text expands, then you can move past it and quote below in the
approved fashion, or go into Settings, enable Labs, and tick the
feature "Quote selected text" by "Ryan A". Then, before you hit
Reply,
select the bit you're replying to. Only it is copied into your reply,
expanded, and the cursor is left below it.
