It's simple.
Of the 62 points in the United States where three and only three
states meet (each of which may be associated with its own tri-state
area), 35 are on dry land. So it's one of thirty-five possibilities!
I'm close to Oregon-Washington-Idaho.... But I don't have a nice
5150/5160.

with population probably calls it "tri-state".
It is certainly less common than "crossroads", "lake area",
"west
side", or "bay area" (which obviously means SF bay, not Green Bay,
Massachusetts, etc.)
