Hello Benjamin,
thank you for your "baby/400" comment, I wasn't aware of that product.
I had previously been aware of a "baby/36" project, and have been keeping my eye
out for that, or something to emulate a System/36.

However, you can get reasonably-priced used AS/400's off eBay pretty regularly.
I've had my eye out for a 9401 for some time, but I usually miss out on the auctions.
The 9401 is unfortunately the older, CISC-based CPU, and therefore will only run OS/400 up
through V3, but the fact that the 9401 is hardly larger than your average slim desktop PC
almost makes up for it. However, if you're ok with a large desktop size box, you can
regularly get 9406-800's for under $1,000, which I think can run 6.1.1, and maybe even
7.1. If you hold out, sometimes you can find a deal on a rackmount 9406-520, and
that's realistically what I'd recommend. I still run one in production at my
work. Great box.

Are there any AS/400 emulators out there?
Alternately, any baby AS/400 systems in the Columbus, OH area? I'm
asking for a friend.
