I think that many if not most of the people on here learned to program
on something other than BASIC. I, for example, learned FORTRAN IV on an
IBM 1401 6 years before the MITS Altair 8800 was introduced to the world.
I did personally not encounter BASIC until I was in grad school, on an
IBM 370/168 running Wylbur for interactive computing. I was much more
taken with the DEC-20.
