Similarly the old electrician's 'trick' of shorting out a blown fuse and
seeing what smokes is a very bad idea.
I remember, about 30 years ago, we had a fuse which kept blowing and
couldn't find the cause. The electrician turned up and put a nail in
the fuse, switched the power on - flash, BANG - he smiled and said
"if in doubt short it out :)". It looked a bit dicy to me.
