Is VENIX worth trying on this thing?
I don't know what VENIX is or how it works, but I get the
impression that VENIX was used on the PRO350 when
the PRO350 was used as the console device for the
VAX 780??????
VENIX is a UNIX varient. Personally, of all the OS's available I'd
recommend RT-11. My Pro380 was originally a VAX console (they were used on
the 8000 somethings). It's still got the software for that on the hard
drive. I'm not sure what exactly it is, other than I don't think it's P/OS,
and it's most definitly not RT-11 or a UNIX varient.
The Pro350 and Pro380 were not used on the 11/780, but they were
used on some of the 8xxx systems. The Console software is indeed
P/OS, but with some extra software added (I have the installation
disks and manual). You can install standard P/OS, but you can't
install the extra software from the Console P/OS installation.
You have to install from scratch.
I've read through the supported hardware list for RSX-11M and
the Pro350 and Pro380 are listed, but I don't know when support
was added.
