to create the rotating vector.
That sounds pretty standard for a PPI scope - there is nothing weird
about those CRTs. Either electrostatic (sin/cos on the plates) or
magnetic (generally a rotating yoke) deflection was used to make the
raster.
The antenna position sensors were almost always selsyns, as
potentiometers are just too sloppy.
