Might have been better but I had the FPGA there anyway for other reasons
so I just connected a few pins to the SD card and started writing code.
I'll add tangentially that an MCU can not only give you full-4-bit width
SDHC access, but also has a lot of extra goodies, such as USB OTG and
even ethernet built on. Goven modern MCUs, I don't think I'd even
consider using programmable logic for this particular task.
