That was option 0218 for the 5170.
Looking at the 5170 "Installation and Setup" guide, it does mention the
back panel. The 5170 that I owned didn't have it. It seems to be stuck
on with adhesive strips. Perhaps at some point, IBM quit shipping the
5170 with it.
