Has anyone ever tried to make 1960s-type incandescent digitaldisplays?

 Perhaps.  Thanks for sharing your experiences.

If someone wants to provide me the artwork, I'd be happy to run a few 
parts through my laser.  By engraving the number patterns in a thin bit of 
acrylic, it will edge light just the way it looks in the pictures at the 
vintage calculator site.
