usual for DDS drives. Don't waste time or money on them. The one and
only thing you can do with them is moving them to trash bin. Really.
A friend called DDS drives "a spooling /dev/null". They work when new
halfway OK, but fail soon and usual there is no chance to get them back
to work.
That corresponds well to my experiences. After problems with both DAT and
8mm tape systems I ended up moving first to DLT and currently to LTO tapes
for backup.
