For what it may be worth, I saw "DAM" and wondered what it meant. If I
'Data Address Mark'. Basically am 'illegal' pattern of pulses on the disk
(one that can't occur elsewhere in a sector) the indicates the start of a
new sector or soemthing like lat.

It's not specific to Superbrains. I think all soft-sectored FM and MFM
floppies use them.
