Really? I don't think I've seen a single piece of modern gear made
in the last 10 years that uses an 8255 to interface to an IDE drive.
They do have specialized chips to do that...
If it's the hobbyist clan, well, that's a different matter.
The SBC6120 comes to mind. Considering the number of units sold
and the level of commercialization of the whole deal, I'm not sure
I'd consider it "hobbyist clan".
I'd think even a small CPLD would do a better
job.
That's what I'd have done on that board.
