It really is a different way of thinking that's not easy for some folks to

The same can be said about imperative programming.
People usually get started with imperative programming. It is familar,
as it is like a cooking recipe: Do this, then that until condition,

If you are a mathematician, functional programming will be much closer
to what you are used to.
Currently I am diving into Haskell. Many times it is astonishing to me
how easy and natural some things are to express in a functional
programming language.
