That one I can at least understand because of Ozzie "-o" slang
("Medico" for doctor, "Doco" for Documentation, "Smoko" for
smoke
break, among numerous examples). I have no idea if that's where
"Distro" originates, but it at least follows a well established
dialectical pattern.
