Hi All,
I finally got to the RM03 I collected over a year ago from Italy.
Disclaimer : I've enver seen a real RM03, but I believe it's close to
some CDC drives.
I did some cleaning of the main unit, and I have a spare absolute
airfilter which I want to replace with the old one, which brings
me to the first question..., how do I replace it?
Apparently, the whole drive and actuator allembly can be lifted,
but I can't find a lever or bolt to release in order to lift it.
On some CDC drives, there are 2 large allen-head bolts in the bottom of
the disk housing. Undo those, and lift the chassis from the front. You
may have to swing out the cardcage for it to clear the casing.
Indeed, after removing the pack 2 allen bolts did appear and after removing them
I could lift the assembly. This gives me also the change to grease or oil the
ventilator motor as well, as it was rather squeeking...
Last question
: in the drive is a pack, but I don't have an empty
cover with a handle to place over it in order to remove it.
I do hawever have 4 packs which are having their covers, and was
thinking of using one of those. problem is, how to release it from the
handle?
The disk pack centre spindle (the part with the male screw thread on the
end that screws into the base part of the cover, or into the drive
spindle) is hollow. The drive spindle has a pin in the middle that goes
up iside the pack spinde and releases a ball-bearing catch at the top.
You might be able to do it by pushing something up into the disk pack
spindle.
Yep, that did the trick. how simple some things can be, yet not obvious to
see :)
One more question, what is the best way to clean the heads? Using a cotton
swab with plenty of isopropyl (which I use to clean the RL02 heads), or
is there more care needed for these heads?
