What's
happened to FTP?
FTP has been deprecated. HTTP is a much better protocol for file
transfers, apart from things that should never be done during transfer
like CR<>CRLF or character set swaps.
Most HTTP tools seem terrible at supporting restarts (resuming interrupted
transfers) as compared to FTP tools, though.
The only irritating thing I've noticed is that FTP seems consistently slower
than HTTP for transfers. I'm not sure if that's down to the protocol,
deliberate throttling by server admins, or simply that HTTP servers tend to
have more hardware thrown at them than FTP.
