Now I had to go and read up. It turns out the O2k could be run in 256 and 512 CPU
configurations as well but it was not marketed and supported.
And certainly such configurations could then be clustered. In fact it has been done with

128 CPU O2k computers interconnected with HIPPI using MPI. Read more here, the linked PDF
