Did anyone ever USE a light pen?
Few.
Some (myself included) did so very briefly, just to try it.
And, the IBM MDA monitor had a long persistence phosphor (P39?) that
didn't work well with it.
For those with limited means, CGA, with an after-market composite B&W
monitor (of any color phosphor) was half the cost of any other video
system for 5150. Most of those would work well with light pens, but until
Windoze, there wasn't much demand for pointing devices.
Many people claimed that a mouse was "infinitely superior", but to them my
response was, "let me see you sign your name using a mouse." THAT was
usually an eye-opener.
