Yes... the C2N232 - an Atmel microcontroller and a DE9 serial connector. The
Atmel understands two formats of bits coming over the PET connector - the
standard C= PET tape format (TTL-level signals meant to be converted to audio
signals in a C2N tape drive) and some high-bandwidth C2N232-specific signals
that can be generated by a modern program that you can load in via the tape
port.
I do not know if they are currently in production anywhere in the world, but
I have two at home.
